Abstract:User Experience and Information Architecture of National Library Websites With the advancement of information technologynational library websites have become an essential vehicle for their users to access official information and library resourcesThey serve the general public from different countriesage groupsethnicitiesand educational levelsThe purpose of this dissertation research is to examine the usabilityuser experienceUXand information architectureIAof national library websites in different countriesFocal areas of investigation include1the primary content elements on national library websiteshomepages2the extent to which various quantitative measures of heuristic evaluation and IA assessment overlap with those measures from task-based usability testing3the extent of the impact of cultural and national origins on participantsassessment of usability of national librarieswebsitesThe research design of this dissertation study features1a content inventory of 28 national library websites2a web IA assessment and a usability evaluation of five national library websitesand3usability tests for three national library websites involving 30 participantsThe key findings of this dissertation research help to establish a list of common content elements on the homepages of national library websites worldwide and provide a concretepracticaland feasible procedure to evaluate such websitesThe results show statistically significant differences in task performance with the use of national library websites between different groups of userssuch as those from different genders and educational backgroundsSignificant correlations were found between the overall participant satisfaction of a national library website and multiple variables such as the contentvisual designand information architectureas well as between heuristic evaluation scores and participantsratings of some aspects of the websitesBased on the specific results from various phases of the researchthis dissertation presented detailed recommendations that could help to make national library websites more usable for all its usersincluding the first-time users across different gendersage groupsand educational backgroundsFurthermorein order to achieve a high level of satisfactionit is recommended that national libraries focus on six factors affecting participantssatisfactionthe quality of informationthe trustworthiness of the contentthe credibility of the content producersprovidersthe websites overall structurethe designand the aesthetics of the websiteAnother significant contribution of this dissertation research is its use of various methods used to evaluate national library websites and its integration of the results of the different methods to obtain a broader and more comprehensive understanding of these findingsFuture UX research on national library websites could expand the research by incorporating the methodology used in this researchtesting a greater number of national library websites around the worldand involving users from all walks of lifeConsulting ServiceBy improving the availabilityUXand IA of the National Library websiteit provides more intuitive and efficient information retrieval methodsand can serve usersRetrieval and IndexingThe research focuses on the information architecture and availability of the library websitewhich is directly related to how users search and index informationLibrary AutomationOverseas evaluation and evaluation can be used to simplify and automate website to improve user experienceModelmode recognitionThis research is studying the availability model and user experience of the national library websiteThe identification of these models can be associated with the field recognition fieldNLPNatural Language TreatmentResearch focuses on the content of the text and the relevant content elementsinformation architecture and user satisfactionOrganization analysis time group
